Here's what to do

When you have chosen your fabric head over to our Order webpage to upload your artwork.

It is important that your artwork is print ready.

Here is a checklist of what you need to do as well as our printing specifications here at The Silk Bureau.

Make sure your artwork is saved at the size you want it printed at. There will be some shrinkage from your artwork to the printed fabric size which is totally normal. It’s hard to say what that shrinkage is but it’s usually about 5 – 10%.

If you have designed an all-over repeat pattern, just send the single repeatable tile and enter how many metres you want to print.

Double check that your pattern repeats seamlessly without any obvious “join” lines.

2  Flatten the artwork. This means your artwork file should be uploaded to us as a single layer.

3  Embed your Color Mode – this must be RGB. We find that Adobe RGB (1998) and sRGB 2.1 are the most popular, although you may have used another. That shouldn’t be a problem. If it is, we’ll let you know.

4  Save your artwork as an uncompressed  jpg (jpeg) or tiff

5  Open our Order page.

Choose your fabric from the dropdown list

How many metres do you want printed? Please note we charge for a minimum of 1m.

Upload your saved jpg (jpeg) or tiff file – wait for the file to fully upload before proceeding.

Is it a repeat file? Select Yes or No from the dropdown menu.

Then just complete the rest of the form.

Remember to upload your current Student ID card and add STUDENT as the promotion code

Finally agree to the Terms & Conditions and press the SUBMIT button. You will receive a confirmation email detailing your selections.

You can always give us a call with any questions you may have. Call 01386 861122 or email info@silkbureau.co.uk

Printing Scarves

Shrinkage

The processes involved in digital textile printing causes the original fabric to shrink. If you are printing scarves, the size of the finished product will be important to you. For example, if you have square artwork, you will be expecting your finished scarf to be square!

To get the printed fabric closer to the size you need, all fabric intended for scarves must go through an extra step to reshape it. Please allow extra time on your deadlines to allow for this process.

Let us introduce you to the …

Stenter

The stenter is an enormous piece of machinery that has many uses, including coating our fabrics and reshaping scarf orders.

After travelling through a solution to soften the fabric, it then passes over a flat bed, gripped on the selvedge edges to pull it back into shape.

It’s a long and precise process that needs to be carefully monitored.

Shrinkage Disclaimer

If you have selected to use our hemming service, we will check the stentered fabric for you before we begin to finish your scarves. If you are not using our service, it’s up to you to check the size BEFORE you cut out the individual scarves from the fabric length. We cannot re-size after your scarves have been cut out.
