Sporty number!

All eyes from the Silk Bureau were focused on the Commonwealth Games this year. Not only for the games themselves but also because we were eager to spot the Welsh teams leggings.

Welsh-Dragon

Designer Tom Noble came to the SIlk Bureau to get his Welsh Dragon inspired design printed on a Poly Igloo fabric.

With a 4-way stretch the fabric makes an ideal sports garment. Modelled here by Ben Gregory before competing in the men’s Decathlon which took place at the Carrara Stadium, in Queensland Australia during April this year.

We had to find out more about Tom Noble and of course this prestigious commission.

Q: How did design begin for you?

At 21 I had graduated Nottingham University with a degree in Sustainability, at 24 I was an Accountant in Oxford and at 25 I was running a business that creates sportswear. Not your every day career trajectory!

Q: So what made you start the business?

Working in accountancy gave me an insight into how businesses were run, the freedom that business owners had to create amazing companies and the pride they had in doing so. After so much exposure to the self employed community, I decided that this is what I wanted so I decided to leave my job and go it alone!

Q: Why Sportswear?

I started working in sportswear because I was a Canoe Polo player (a sport that I started at Univeristy and still play to this day) and through my years in the sport I saw that there was an opportunity to create superior custom rashvests for teams. I started making these products and then eventually developed my product range and moved on to rowing kit as well. At the end of the day clothing is just a selection of different garment panels, so with appropriate R&D it would be easy to create an amazing product (not as easy as I thought, but certainly do able).

Q: Tell us how you got involved in designing for the Welsh Commonwealth Games Team.

I was recommended to the organization through a mutual connection, we then went through a sampling run and the rest is history.

Q: What’s next for Tom Noble?

I’m looking forward to an exciting season in the rowing market after getting my foot in the door last year and building my reputation. At the same time I’ll be looking to increase rashvests sales and look into developing other markets.

Really showing how versatile the uses for digital print are, we love seeing the action shots of Tom’s sportswear. Take a look at Outfitsport’s instagram page.
